speedtestVirgin Media tried out a dozen U.K. speedtest sites, and found half were inaccurate at 20 or 50 megabits. Several weren't even accurate at 10 meg. Virgin isn't disinterested, as they expect to finish rolling 50 megabit DOCSIS 3.0 service across their half of the United Kingdom over the next few months.

Edd Dawson of broadband.co.uk, one of the companies whose results were questioned, writes that since the January tests they have made changes that will resolve any problems and produce accurate results.

Virgin found speedtest.net accurate, no surprise since it runs Ookla software. Since Mike Apgar and other former Speakeasy employees founded Ookla in 2006, they've acquired customers Comcast, Time Warner, Cox, Charter, AT&T, Rogers Cable, and Verizon. Broadband.co.uk is also working with them
